Our Blue Zone Philosophy

Did you know people who live in “Blue Zones” live significantly longer and healthier lives? In 2004, a National Geographic explorer named Dan Buettner set out to answer a deceptively simple question: where do people live the longest — and why? What he found changed how scientists and doctors think about aging, disease, and what it means to grow old well.

He identified 5 communities of people living in Japan, Costa Rica, Italy, Greece and California — called Blue Zones — that have the highest concentrations of people living to 100 years old. He found that people living in these communities did not exhibit stronger genetics than the rest of us — but they all shared certain lifestyle factors such as belonging to a close-knit community, moving their bodies naturally, developing and keeping routines that keep their stress low and minds sharp, a plant diet, and having a purpose.
